We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Skilled Bricklayer to join our growing team.
Job Summary: We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Bricklayer to perform all aspects of masonry construction and repair. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately laying bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry units to construct and repair walls, partitions, arches, and other structures according to blueprints, specifications, and established building codes. This role demands precision, a strong work ethic, and a deep understanding of masonry techniques and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
Understand project specifications to determine layout, dimensions, and materials required.
Site Preparation: Prepare worksites by setting out lines, levels, and establishing reference points for walls and other structures. This may include erecting scaffolding, ensuring proper foundations, and maintaining a clean work area.
Material Management: Calculate material requirements (bricks, blocks, mortar, etc) and ensure efficient use of resources, minimizing waste.
Mortar Preparation: Mix mortar to the correct consistency, color, and type (e.g., standard mortar, lime mortar) based on project specifications and environmental conditions.
Laying Masonry Units: Precisely lay bricks, blocks, and stone in courses, applying mortar with a trowel, ensuring correct bond patterns, plumb, level, and alignment using levels, plumb lines, and other measuring tools.
Cutting & Shaping: Cut and shape masonry units using hammers, chisels, power saws, and other specialized tools to fit around openings, corners, or to create decorative effects.
Jointing & Finishing: Tool mortar joints to create desired finishes (e.g., concave, raked, flush), ensuring a neat and uniform appearance.
Repair & Restoration: Perform repair work, including repointing existing mortar joints, replacing damaged bricks or blocks, and restoring historical masonry elements when required.
Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe operation of tools and equipment, and safe practices when working at heights.
Quality Control: Inspect finished work to ensure it meets quality standards, specifications, and building codes.
Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team with other bricklayers, laborers, carpenters, and project managers, maintaining clear communication.
Tool Maintenance: Properly clean and maintain all tools and equipment.
Qualifications:
Proven experience of [X years, e.g., 3-5 years] as a professional Bricklayer. Apprenticeship completion or trade school certification is a plus.
Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of brick, block, and stone laying.
Proficient in mixing various types of mortar and understanding their properties.
Skilled in the use of hand tools (trowels, levels, plumb bobs, chisels) and power tools (grinders, masonry saws, mixers).
Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
Excellent physical stamina and strength, capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 75 lbs regularly), bending, kneeling, climbing, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Reliable transportation to and from job sites in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction safety certification would be useful
